HKCP Hong Kong Primary and Secondary School Climbing Competition 2025

Purpose: This competition aims to promote climbing activities in primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong, using the competition as a learning platform to enhance climbing skills and improve technical level and learn the sportsmanship spirit, thereby jointly promoting sports climbing and enhancing interaction between schools.
Date: April 12, 2025 (Saturday)
Time: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Location: Hong Kong Climbing Park (Level 2, Belair Gardens Shopping Arcade Phase 2, 52 Tai Chung Kiu Road, Sha Tin, Hong Kong.)
Eligibility: All participating students must still be enrolled in the school during the competition period
Categories:

a. 120 quota.(First-come-first-served basis)
b. Each student can only represent one school. Each school can report up to 4 students in each group.
c. Please fill in the names of the contestants on the registration form in order of priority. If the number of participants exceeds the quota, the order of the list of participants will be determined by the priority reported by each school.
d. The organizer has the right to adjust the quota of each group based on the actual registration status of each group, and participating schools or participants shall not object.
e. Fee: HK$480 per person per event
f. Hong Kong Climbing park will organize 3 events on 2025. The relevant branch information is as follows:

Registration methods and instructions

a. Schools must submit or mail the completed registration form and activity declaration form, together with a check for the registration fee, to Hong Kong Climbing Park (Address: Level 2, Belair Gardens Shopping Arcade Phase 2, 52 Tai Chung Kiu Road, Sha Tin, Hong Kong) on or before 12 March, 2025 (based on the postmark date). The cheque should be made payable to “Hong Kong Climbing Park Limited” and the name of the school must be clearly written on the back of the che (please write in block letters). If the organizer fails to successfully arrange for participants to participate in this competition, the organizer will return the relevant payment check to the applying school.
b. Each participant must fill in the “Hong Kong Primary and Secondary School Climbing Competition 2025” activity declaration form. Participants under the age of 18 must be signed by their parents or guardians before they can participate.
c. Once the school submits the registration list, it cannot change the list of participants, and the fees paid will not be refunded.
d. The organizer will not process faxed, incomplete/erroneous information or forms submitted after the deadline.
e. Unsuccessful candidates will not be notified.
f. If the number of applicants in each group is less than 6, the organizer has the right to assign participants to an older group or cancel the relevant group. If the number of applicants is less than 12, there will be no finals.
g. The organizer will send a “confirmation email” after receiving the school’s registration application. If the school has not received the organizer’s notice before 6pm on March 15 2025, please contact the organizer’s staff at 3708 9075; otherwise Applications to the school will not be processed.
h. The organizer will not send a letter to each participant to inform each participant of the entry list. The list will be announced on the organizer’s Facebook page and Instagram page on 20 March, 2025.

Instructions for contestants

a. Participants are required to wear school sportswear and arrange lunch by themselves.
b. Participants are not allowed to enter the competition venue four days before the competition.
c. Participants must abide by the rules of the competition venue and competition.
d. The competition will be mainly based on the IFSC International Competition Rules 2022. However, the competition venue, time and number of finalists will be changed based on the number of participants, and will be subject to the announcement of the referee on the day of the competition.

Rules of Preliminary Round
  • Competitors must report to the registration area on time. Each competitor will recieve a score sheet and must keep it properly. However, all scoring information on the scoring paper is written by the organizer.
  • Competitors must enter the quarantine area before it closes, otherwise they will be disqualified from the competition.
  • The Preliminary round will be held in isolation.
  • The preliminary competition will be a 60-minute open-ended mode (Flash). Competitors can try any beta they want. The top 6 players who completed 10 routes with the best results will advance to the finals.
  • Flash = no isolation and no designated order, and is performed in a queuing format.
  • The preliminary competition time is 60 minutes. During this period, there is no limitation of climbing attemps. The score sheet must be returned to registration before the end of the preliminary competition, otherwise it will be deemed as a forfeit.
  • Competitors must hand in the score sheet to the referee of the route before each attempt, and must obtain confirmation from the referee of the route before they can start.
  • Competitors can wait for one race line at the same time, and the order in which the referee collects the player score sheets shall prevail.
  • If you fall down during the climb, you must line up again to climb the route. Each attempt on each route should not last longer than two minutes.
  • Each boulder is marked with Start Hold, Zone and Top.
  • A competitor ’s attempt will be deemed to have:
    A) Started when every part of the competitor’s body has left the ground on the start hold.
    B) Finished when:
    1) Successful;
    2) they have fallen or touched the ground after starting; or
    3) the attempt has been terminated by the boulder judge
  • If any “technical accident” occurs, the competitor must immediately submit a request for the “technical accident” to the event referee. Subsequent appeals for the “technical accident” will not be accepted.

Rules of Fianl Round
  • The top 6 players in each group will advance to the finals based on their preliminary results.
  • Competitors must report to the registration area on time and enter the quarantine area before it closes, otherwise they will be disqualified from the competition.
  • Competitors must arrange their own warm-up after entering the isolation area.
  • The finals will be held in isolation.
  • No communication devices are allowed in the quarantine area, including but not limited to mobile phones, laptops, etc. After entering the quarantine area, you are not allowed to have any contact with anyone outside the quarantine area. If you need to leave the isolation area, you must obtain the consent of the staff. Otherwise, you will be disqualified.
  • All competitors will be allowed to conduct a 2-minute on-site observation of the climbing route.
  • Competitors can only touch the start holds without leaving their feet off the ground.
  • After the on-site climbing route observation time is over, competitors must return to the isolation area. When summoned to the transition area by staff, personal belongings must be brought into the transition area immediately. Any delay will result in a “yellow card” warning from the referee. Repeat offenders will be shown a “red card” and disqualified.
  • The player with the lower score in the preliminary round will advance to the competition first. If there are same score, the organizer will draw lots.
  • The final round consisting of a single course of 3 boulders. The Attempt Period within the Final round shall allow a Climbing Period of 3 minutes, and in each case, competitors may make unlimited attempts on any boulder within the relevant Climbing Period.
  • If any “technical accident” occurs, the competitor must immediately submit a request for the “technical accident” to the event referee. Subsequent appeals for the “technical accident” will not be accepted.
Scoring Criteria
  • 1) in descending order, the number of Successfully completed boulders (“Tops”);
  • 2) in descending order, the number of boulders on which the competitor has either:
    • a) Controlled (with any hand) the Zone Hold; or
    • b) successfully completed the boulder without having Controlled the Zone Hold, this number being the “Zone Points” awarded;
  • 3) in ascending order, the total number of attempts to achieve these Tops;
  • 4) in ascending order, the total number of attempts to achieve these Zone Points;
Awards
  • All participants will receive certificates of attendance as encouragement.
  • Each group of events has a champion, runner-up and third runner-up, and each winner will receive a medal. For categories with less than 6 participants or less, there will only be a champion.
